Beautiful Book!

I love Stephen King and this book was amazing. However, as others have stated, digital doesn't do this book justice. This book will be a beautiful coffee table centerpiece and I am excited to get a copy as soon as I can.

Love me some Stephen King

I wasn't able to finish as the print was smalln but I love me some Stephen King. I loved the layout of the book and the wonderful pictures. I am elderly, with poor vision, so could not read the words no matter how I tried. Like other reader's, a physical copy will be fantastic. Really wish I had been able to read through this.

Excellent !!

648 pages 5 stars What a wonderful book !! Stephen King has been my favorite author since he started writing. I have most of his books in hard cover and this one is perfect for that cover style as well. I would love to see it in its entirety. The text and photos were a little frustrating in NetGalley Shelf. It demands a full book experience ! I am excited to get it in hardcover. I want to thank NetGalley and Black Dog and Leventhal Publishers for forwarding to me a copy of this wonderful book. I simply can’t wait.

A Must Have For Any King Fan

The Art and Craft of Stephen King is a beautiful coffee table book filled with facts any Stephen King fan would be proud to display. The book presents each of his works in chronological order up to Hansel and Gretel. Many photos and illustrations are included in each entry, often depicting the author himself in that time period. Even the most hardcore fan would find information they didn’t know, as there are special sections just for “King Addicts”. The book also goes into the various adaptions made for the screen, which is fascinating.

A Great Reference Guide

This is a great book for any constant reader. It is a wealth of information about every novel, short story and any adaptations that were made from them. Lots of background on how King came up with the ideas for the stories and background on making the movies and TV shows. It is also very large. Over sized on heavy paper with lots of photos and annotations. Highly recommend.

Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about our products, shipping, returns, and more.

What is this book about? +

It's a complete guide to Stephen King's published work. Each novel, novella and short story gets its own entry on how it was created, published and adapted.

Is this written by Stephen King? +

No. It’s written by Guy Astic and Frank Lafond, two specialists who have studied King’s work in depth, and published by Black Dog & Leventhal, an imprint of Hachette Book Group. It’s a companion and guide to King’s work, not a novel or story collection by King himself, and it isn’t signed or officially endorsed by him. Think of it as the ultimate behind-the-scenes guide to everything he’s written.

Does it cover the short stories too? +

Yes. Every novel, novella and short story is included, not just the bestsellers.

Is this a physical book? +

Yes. It's a 505-pages book

Is it a good gift? +

It's a large illustrated hardcover that suits any horror reader or film fan. Order early in the holiday season to allow for delivery time.

Will a casual King fan enjoy it? +

Absolutely. You don’t need to have read every King book to get a lot out of this one. If you’ve seen IT, The Shining or The Shawshank Redemption, you’ll recognise plenty, and each chapter stands on its own, so you can jump straight to the stories you know. Many readers use it as a guide to which King book to pick up next.

Does it contain spoilers? +

Yes, in places. Each chapter discusses the story’s plot and themes, and some explore key twists and endings, especially when comparing the book to its film version. If there’s a King novel you haven’t read yet and want to experience fresh, we suggest skipping that chapter until you’ve finished it. Because every chapter stands on its own, it’s easy to read around the stories you’re saving for later.

Why are copies limited? +

To maintain quality and consistent availability, stock is released in limited batches.
